Know some of you have a 280AI.... I do not have mine yet. Hoping to have within a month. New to reloading but have help and have read some books. Have had trouble finding powder. Now is available. Have bought h4831. Intend to buy n165 and want to just get one more. Was deciding between rl 19 and 22. Don't want to bite off more options than can deal with before hunting season. Recommendations? Will try 140 accubond, 150 ttsx (if can find them), 154 sst and 160 accubond. Already probably too many options. Thanks

you can never have to many options when talking about load development. i would try everything you mentioned for sure. depending on what your planning to do with the rifle may help you narrow down your bullets. i would personally try everything i could between 140gr and 160gr. the AI is nice round.

If you already have H4831 it is almost interchangeable with R-22 in the 280 Ackley. I would hunt for VV-165 and also IMR-4350 which gives me excellent accuracy in the 280 Ackley with 140 BT's.

I've had great luck with the TTSX in my 280AI. With RL22 I get: 140's @3150
                                                                                                     150's @3060
My rifle is a pre 64 M70 fwt with a pac-nor fwt @ 24" and sits in a rimrock stock.
Both shoot <1" @ 100 yds.

I shoot 160 Accubonds in mine with RL22 and Fed215 primers.  This load is a little hot and I have backed down lately

and have started using 62 gr of RL25 and am getting more consistant velocities, the same accuracy and still getting 3025 fps or so.  The 160's shoot pretty good at distance, this was shot on a day with a 15 to 20 mph quartering from behind right to left wind and I wanted to see how far the wind moved it

Here is a good accurate forming load (as long as you don't try to make a false shoulder)

Need to check for do-nuts cause a 280AI is prone to them and they will make a difference

If I use Nosler brass then I definitely get do-nuts but only develop them on a few cases if I use regular Nosler 280 remington brass.

Edited to add:  The reason I use the 160 gr Accubonds is that my 280AI is my pivot gun, if I am going Whitetail hunting I will carry my 280AI and my 6.5 rem mag, if I am going Elk hunting I will carry my 280AI and my 338RUM.  My 280AI is an all stainless Sako action with a stainless Hart barrel so if the weather looks wet then it is my goto rifle.  The 160 Accubond is adequate for Elk and does a good job on the Whitetail, probably the 140 gr Accubond would do the job also, but the 160 is extra insurance.
