I'm thinking about a kimber montana. Main uses, high country mule deer, goats or sheep. I would like to hear your experiences, opinions, pros & cons of these two .
  Thanks in advance.

No cons that I really can see with either one!..........What I would do if I were you, is to look at the bullet selections & BC available in both, compare the downrange ballistics in energy, velocity and bullet drop and make a decision from there.....For deer, goats and sheep you can go with either!

I would go with the 260 because I think it would be cool! HA! Better yet, have Kimber make one for you in 6.5X55 Swede!! Yippee          --Ed

hmm, 260 vs the 7-08 thats a good one, both have great s.d. with there bullets both are very accurate, both are lethal on a lot of north american game, the 7-08 gets my vote only for 2 reasons, there are more bullet choices in the 7-08 than the .260 and finding ammo at a store will be easier for the 7-08, if that stuff doesnt matter to you the .260 is a fine choice too.

Either one will work for you , but I'm gonna jump on the 7mm/08 bandwagon for all the aforementioned reasons by Pyro

As much as I want a .260........... I think I would choose the 7mm for Muleys!  Dare I say, I might even go with the .280.

I recommend 1 of each.  That's what I did!Wink

I like any cartridge based on the .308 case!  I think pyro pretty much covered it.  The 7 has a much wider selection of bullets, but the .260 is an efficient performer well beyond what its size would seem to indicate.  It is the ballistic twin of the 6.5X55 Swede but in a short action.

I'm leanin towards the 260, reason i have at least one rifle in 1 cal. from .204 to .323, except a .264. But then i think about the 7mm08, i have a 7 mag, so i already have the bullets.
I want light with not much recoil, at least a 22' barrel. That's why i'm thinkin 260 or 7mm08 in  the Kimber 84 Montana!
I've been packing a 700 bdl ss in 300 saum. around 7 lbs.
It's a tough call to make! I been kicking it around for quite awhile.

I missed the one of each. That sounds like the easiest solution but i can only afford one right now so which one first?

Take a peek at your longer range ballistics.  At 300 yards, the 7mm has about 125fps more in speed, and 200 foot pounds of energy, with a 140 grain bullet,  yet so little recoil.   Your choice of course!  That Kimber may come in at less than six pounds?  I'd kill for one of those if they only made a left handed one!!!

This looks like a worthy .260

I have the .260 in a Remington M7. It is light, fast handling and accurate. Since you already have a 7mm.......get the .260. That's what I did.

The Montana is a great handling gun and will be a pleasure to carry all day. Post pics when you're set up. We love pics @O.T.

I think you've answered your own question.  The Kimber Montana would be a great launchpad for the .260 as well.  My .260 is in a Kimber 84 Classic Select, and I love the rifle!

I see the 7mm/08 as the clear choice here. The .260/6.5 has a strong, almost cult following, but the 7mm/08 can match or exceed anything the .260 can do and is still doing it with moderate recoil. Heck, you even get a .280 when you use LM loadings in your 7mm/08.

i like your logic here, and if you want to have a 6.5mm in your collection the .260 is a perfect choice, its big enough to take large game hunting and varminting with the same rifle, if you have a 7mm mag then maybe a .260 wouldnt be a bad choice

If you want to complete a grand slam of calibers, proceed with the .260, then you have answered you own question, since you already have the 7mm (Mag)
