Anybody have any experience with a 2.5X Sightron I or Burris Fullfield II?  Particularly interested in durability, as it would be going on a beater/loaner/truck rifle.

The Fulfield II is a fairly durable scope, quite a few folks have sworn by them. I'm not sure about the S1 though. There's always the Elite 4200 3-9x 40. That you can get here at SWFA for 249.95. It is a durable scope and very good glass. Just a thought.

Ruger M77 308, 19" barrel.  Has a perfectly good Weaver 3-9 on it now, but I have another use for that.

..............Oh really? I don`t recall a Ruger M77 having stock 19" tubes. It may have been cut down though. Sure that`s not a Frontier like mine or a compact with the 16.5" barrel?

If you wish to stick with the 3x9, there is no better scope for the bucks optically, than the 3x9 Elite 4200 @ $249.

I had a 3x9 4200 mounted conventionally on my 300 WSM Frontier. I later traded it for a new 2.5-8x28 Nikon Monarch EER, which was mounted in the preferred and faster scout position on that same rifle.

Since this is a truck gun, I`d be more inclined to go with a lower powered variable than a 3x9, or maybe a fixed 2.5x to 4x. They are lighter with less height or profile.

If your shots are under 300 yards (more than likely), take a good look at the Weaver V3 1-3x20 (8.5 oz.) for $150. Although I don`t own one, I know a friend that does and have considerable experience with it. That is my favorite little variable for the bucks. It is very quick to the target, has great glass, with excellent FOV`s (87' @ 100 yards on the 1x).

That is a scope that I`d associate more with going on a truck rifle.
