To the new owner of the once used 257-cognitive dissonance-got that out of a Psychology Today Magazine- can't find the original post- did you stop to think that the reason you got such a good price on the used gun was because the barrel was already gone? Also please explain the difference to Dolphin between a 257 and a 6.5 he has gotten very irritable lately and wont talk anymore, just makes threatening gestures with the middle finger of his right hand.

Maybe we should let fbombs be happy with his gun. He is new around here and I would like to see him stay. The good deal might be because it was a Vanguard, BTW. I have handled these guns and they are solid and well made.

Dale, the gun was used but shot only a few times. I may be new here but I am not a moron. If I made you mad by buying Weatherby that is just weird. I bought Weatherby because my uncle has one and loves it. I started this post only because I was  wondering what the recoil was like. I was not looking for a full review of Weatherby firearms from some guy that I don't even know. I thank you for your input but I have already made my decision and you are not going to change my mind.

well put fbombs,  i haven't chimed in on any comments,  but this has gotten seriously out of hand here.  your thread got jacked to the highest extent,  and i hope that you love your new gun.  i don't think you can go wrong with any major manufacturer,  it's personal preference.  i just bought a vanguard 257, the first weatherby i've owned,  but it feels great,  can't wait to get some bullets loaded up to shoot it.  i had to order brass,  i wasn't gonna pay $60 for a box of shells.  let me know what you think when you shoot yours.  regards.  frank

Hey just tryin to help-its your money. Have seen people wanting to get into 22-250s, which were great on the outside, but the previous owner, had done nothing but bench shoot---the barrel out and recoup almost the entire cost to the unsuspecting. Good rule of thumb-take it or leave it- use the new cost of the gun not MSRP subtract the cost of having it cut back, and rechambered and recrowned, as a starting point in price parley. If you know the guns history maybe the guy has already done the load work up and will save you some time. Not suggesting you are a moron just got caught a few times on this one.

Dale needs to chill out.  fbomb If you really wanna push Dale over the edge.  Buy Roy Weatherby's book.  The Man, The Gun , The Legend.  It's a VERY good book, and post us of what you thought of the read.    http://www.thebookmerchant.com/natchitoches.html
