Decided I do in fact need one of these....I dont want to shell out the coin for a Mark V very bad, so right now leaning toward a couple of choices....

1.  Vanguard S2 Deluxe....only 24" barrel, nice wood and luster, about 850.  Sub MOA guarantee, heard fit and finish extremely nice on these.

2.  Remington 700 SF CDL...26" barrel for that extra 60 fps or so...but not sure how quality would compare to the Vanguard.  These are a little over 900.

Leaning toward the S2 Deluxe right now, and put the 700ish savings from a Mark V into a nice scope and some ammo to start...I give up a 54 degree bolt through and a bit of barrel length but thats a lot of coin.

Curious on thoughts either way though...I like the idea of a 26" barrel to squeeze out a bit faster, but pretty sure 60 fps or so wont make one darn bit of difference.

Any other options I missed?  Thanks

Perhaps the Mark V Sporter? Less $ than the other Mark V's, and probably a bit nicer than the Remmy or Vanguard S2. That said though, the S2's are not half bad at a decent price point. Those Mark V's are quite heavy too. Pros and cons either way.

Good choice on caliber.  I've been a Weatherby fan for some time and the 257 Wby cartridge is one of my favorites.  I have a Eurosport model in that caliber that I restocked because the original stock was too nice for hunting duties.

One of the reasons I like the Weatherby is the Monte Carlo stock, but some don't care for it and prefer the straight comb stock that the Remington comes with.

One advantage I would give to the Remington is if you decide to customize the rifle.  Options are significantly better for the Rem 700 action than the Weatherby.

Both are beautiful rifles and a win win situation, no matter which one you pick.  Boils down to your preference on stock.

Accumark is a great rifle, but doubt accuracy will be any better than the S2. Gets you the 26" barrel but nearly 2X the price.

Stock on the Accumark is excellent for a working rifle. I had one in 270 Wby. It was a great shooter and withstood the abuse I put it through up in the mountains or front range.

The Vanguard line has improved significantly in the past couple years.  Not just this plain jane rifle with the Tupperware stock.  Can't argue with the sub-MOA accuracy but I've never had a Weatherby that didn't shoot sub-MOA with good ammo.

Doubt you will be any better off or worse off no matter which route you go.  Save some money and get some good glass.  The 257 Wby can shoot a fair piece.
