I have just started a new 25-06 build and was thinking of adding a Nikon Monarch 4-16X50 on top of it.  What do you all think of this scope on a rifle for this purpose?  It will actually be a hog rifle/varmint/antelope/deer rifle for longer distance shots.  I have never owned a scope with more range than 10X, so I am a little hesitant to go with a higher power scope.  I am sure that the extra power would help at the range.

I myself have a 25-06 that I use for almost everything....it's my " go to" gun. That round can almost do everything.I've had a Bushnell 4200 4-16x40 ( most people think it's about equal to the Monarch, I agree) on it since day 1 and never felt I had the wrong scope.I think your right on for a scope choice, go for it!

I think that would be a nice addition Mike. Some people say that the extra magnification will make you fight mirage, but you can always turn it down. I acutally crank mine up to see the mirage to read wind, then turn it back down to shoot. I think better glass helps see through mirage better than poor glass anyway. I like the slightly higher mag. scopes, as long as they are in the Monarch and up category. Don't ever try it with a Barska, or BSA.

Thanks guys.  I had my heart set on this scope, but wanted a little push to make the purchase.  I just can not make the leap to more expensive glass just yet.  Too many rifles yet to build to buy ultra nice glass.  When i am done tinkering, I will hopefully buy one really great hunk of glass for the favorite rifle I own.  What can I say.  I love guns :-)

Thats why I love this sport, there are always new and endless possibilities and that keeps things "fresh".
