I stumbled into a gun shop today and a Browning A-Bolt SS in 25-06 with McMillian stock took me home.  Its an older gun, 1997 and the custom stock is a little heavy by todays standards.  I did not weigh it, but a little heavy which is not all bad.  I plan to do a little of anything and everything with it, coyotes to plinking.  No big agenda, impulse buy.

I have two Elite 4200's, 3-9X40 & 6-24X40
( the shorter compact version of the 6-24, 13inches).

Which scope would you mount and why?  I'm torn.

Give me something to chew on and thank you.

I'd go with the 3-9x because you mentioned coyote hunting.
6x on the low side is a lot of magnification if Mr. Coyote decides to pop up close range.

Less mirage issues with the lower powered scope too.

Good shooting!

I'm in the 3-9 camp as well. If you are in the market for another purchase later consider the 2.5-10 range with a 42, or 44mm, if the dominant use will be low light a 50mm works better.

...........................3x9 as well from me!..........The 6x24 is a long range smaller varmit and target shooting scope! 6x on the low end is not ideal for closer hunting work!......But! You could set up your mounts and rings to quickly switch over and use the 6x24 if your conditions change!

nice thing about the 25-06 is it is very versitile, probably the most versitile of the 30-06 based cases imo, you can load it down to handle pdogs and coyotes and also load it up to handle elk deer etc, i would also stick to the 3x9

Are you officially "back" now, Hunter?  Did you get your 'puter problems fixed?

Good to have you back!

Thanks guys.  I topped it off with a 3-9X40 Conquest.  It looks pretty good and the view is great.
