I'm mounting a Swift Premier 4-12x40 on an H&R fluted ultra varmint rifle.

The only affordable rings I've found are made by BSA and Tasco.  I've never put any real money into a rifle/scope before, and I don't want cheap rings to ruin either.  (To me, $400 is a LOT of money).

Are these worth buying?  Do they hold zero?  Can you recommend anything better?

Thanks.

Don't skimp on the mounts and rings. They're just as important as the scope. It would be the same as buying $400 rings, and a $15 scope.

Leupold's as mentioned are good.

I see now that I can get some Leupold rings for about $35.  That seems reasonable.  Until now, I had never seen any lower than $85.  These cheaper ones are still good quality, right?

Which ones were you looking at? Standard bases and rings run $45. Just the rings cost 24.95.

Ah, sorry--need to be more specific.

The rifle comes with a standard weaver style rail mounted already.  All I need are the rings.  I found two sets of Leupold rings at walmart this afternoon for $12 and $16, respectively.  Are they garbage or what?  I've never seen ANY Leupold product that inexpensive.

And $25 is a very reasonable price for rings IMO, thx for the price check.  I'll definitely not skimp on ring quality on this setup.

Those are the Rifleman's that you found at Wal-Mart. Still considered low quality. For a weaver rail look at the Burris Signature Zee rings. They come with inserts that protect the scope from ring mars. As well as align the scope. Definitely worth the investment. They are 100% steel as well. Those rifleman's are aluminum.
