Well it seems that the sale of all so called assault weapons has gone through the roof.  None of the sporting goods stores within 200 miles of me has either a AR-15 or any .223 ammo left.  Myself, I don't have one and really don't want one but a friend asked me what type of scope should he install on his.  It will be for recreational use and shooting no more than 300 yards (which is stretching it).

I would suspect a low power variable scope with decent glass and maybe a mil dot reticle.

What do you think?

Thanks for the replies.  If most shots taken are going to be within 200 yards with some occasional 300 yd shots attempted, do you think that a fixed four power scope would suffice?

I'd probably opt for 6x. The super sniper would be a good fit.

I have a (newly acquired) Ar15 and am now looking to get some much needed accessories.

I also was thinking the Sightron Sll Big Sky. One thing I see on the rebate form for this that it needs to be "Purchase and take delivery of any NEW eligible Sightron". Purchase before December 31, 2012 date is easy.  Redeem by March 31, 2013 also is a can do. But what is the "take delivery" refer to?

If I get this scope what size/model would i need for:
-Lens Cap
-2.5" Lens Shade?

The 3-9x42 Super Sniper is a tad more money but designed for this type use.  The Zeiss Conquest scopes are also very nice for the glass and features they offer. Get good quality mounts like BOBRO or AADLAND

The mamba looks like a great deal. It seems nice and cheap but I will have to let you guys know if it's too good to be true.

Also, if I have a fixed front site, do you think i can co-witness? It looks like the mamba sits pretty low, and I am concerned I would need a different mount to get this thing to be on (or above) that front sight. Any insight on this?

Also, is SWFA always have these awsome closeouts on scopes (like with the Sightron), or is the deal of the year? Iam thinking about picking up both the mamba and big-sky for different shooting applications.

Thanks for the help!

This is a model closeout, With the Shot Show only a month away I'd say keep up with SWFA's announcements by signing up for their email alerts.  There will be more closeouts and as always SWFA will pricematch if you ever find a lower price.
