HI, need some help in selecting a target scope for my .22. I shoot primarily freehand at 35 yards, occasionally indoor 50ft, and would possibly like to shoot silhouette in the future.  I am currently using a tasco 10-40 target scope with a fine crosshair/target dot. I have a budget of around $300 but am flexible on that.  The tasco works ok but is blurry at high magnification and absolutely miserable in the low light of evening. Want something brighter would like to stick to the fine/dot reticle and high magnification around 20-24 if possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have been considering weaver, nikon, bushnell elite, burris and mueller. I like the weaver v24 but, would the varminter reticle obscure my sight picture too much? Like I said I really like the fine crosshairs with a target dot.  Thank You!

You should take a close look at the parallax adjustment of any scope you buy. Not all will adjust down to your 50 foot requirement. The Elite 4200 will and also the Leupold EFR 6.5-20x40mm will too. As for getting the reticle you want...Leupold offers some to choose from in their custom shop for a price.

That is a very high quality scope for the money. I hope the parallax will adjust down low enough for your shooting needs. I bought one of their Classic Rimfire scopes in a 3-9 A.O. and it will adjust down to 10 meters. Let us know how far down your Grand Slam will adjust down to when you get it. Good Luck!!

Hi Goinforbroke.

You could be the very man to help me.

I have a Weaver Grand Slam 6-20x40 fitted to my customed Ruger 10/22.

The problem is it shoots 36 cm low at 25 m.Not good.

Did you have any problem mounting your scope ? What type of rifle is it on ? What tyoe of mounts did you use ?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks from across the pond.

Nelly.

Nelly,

Actually, my Weaver was also shooting very low when I initially mounted it.  I used burris rings and a weaver base.

Tried different bases and rings but had the same results.  Actually ended up putting 2 shims between rear of

scope and back ring.(simply raised back of scope)  Just used household aluminum foil and it worked fine.

Good Luck!!!

I shoot rimfire matches year round with my Anschutz 1903. 50 feet indoor and 50yd and 100yd outdoor.  I use a Burris 8x32  rimfire.  It has repeated clicks for the last 5 years and I've won several matches with it.  IMHO

Have used the Weaver for about 1 month now.  Clarity is unbelievable, even in low light.  Shoots great. The only dislike I have is that the fine crosshair and dot are almost too small to see. So far so good. Seems to be a very good scope for the money. Haven't won anything with it but that is probably the guy behind the gun, not the gun or scope. Can put bullets through the same hole at 50yd off the bench....now if I could only learn how not to shake......
