I am looking a scope for a single shot target rifle that I use for squirrel hunting.  Shots are in the 30 yd. range - want a fixe power in either 4 or 6 x with paralax set for 30 yds. or with an adjustable obj.  I am now using an old Redfield 4 x that has been adjusted to be paralax free at 30 yds.  It is a good scope, but in shadows or dark woods it seems that it is not bright enough to resolve detail.  Also, I am 72 and wear glasses, but do OK unless the light is bad.  What do you guys suggest?  Hate to spend $400 on a .22 scope, but I want something that will help these old eyes.

The Weaver 4X is a great choice for your use. The glass is pretty good for the money and it will allow you to take those lower light shots in the woods. http://www.swfa.com/pc-2343-257-weaver-4x28-classic-rimfire-rifle-scope.aspx
Leupold also makes a very good fixed 4X. The reticle is a fine duplex and might be a little harder to pick up in low light. I have an EFR 3.5-10 with the fine reticle and it is used for night time varmint work with artificial light. I think you woud be good to go with the fine. http://www.swfa.com/pc-3620-100-leupold-4x28-fx-i-rimfire-riflescope.aspx
The Leo has 60 yard parallax setting and the Weaver 50. They aren't 30 yard, but will work great for squirrels from 10-50 yards.

Welcome to O.T.

OK, you guys seem to like Weaver.  Maybe, I could live with a variable - what about the
3-9x32 RV9?  Would I lose anything regarding brightness, resolution, etc. with a variable in comparsion to a fixed - also the 3-9 has an adjustable objective, which I really like.

The RV9 is a great choice and won't leave you wanting for anything you will shoot with your .22.
It should be a little brighter when set at four power than the fixed 4X.
