ILya,

My biggest gripe with the Chinese Oberwerk binoculars is the lousy one or two year warranty they come with.
The top-of-the-line, Oberwerk, straight through binoculars are excellent, although most of them are heavy.
Also, I am not a big fan of Individual Focus binoculars, especially when it comes to tracking game that is on the move.
Depth of Focus is rather shallow when it comes to high magnification binoculars such as 20x.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Canon IS 15x and 18x IS bins.  I own the 15x50's and they are simply amazing. I love these things.  They work very well in hand when the IS is on.  I can see that they are working if I look for it because the movement seams delayed somehow. But anyways in hand they are better than anything out there with high power (I reserve the right to say they may not be better than the Zeiss IS because I have yet to get my hands on some). On the tripod where you dont need the IS turned on, they are even better! Edge to edge I have yet to see a better bino period. My only gripe is they seam to lack a tad in brightness but yet I dont have another 15x regular bin to compare with. Higher power ='s less light so it may not be the bins, but the power.

I can see that the time I spend behind my spotter will be greatly reduced with these.  So will the bruised eye and headaches from the spotter.  I dont care what anyone says, spend an entire day behind a spotter and it messes with you.  Spend an entire week behind one and your brain stops seeing things the same way. I have done this several times!  My spotter is one of the best money can buy (Kowa Prominar 884) and it is still hard on me after a long period. I have even resorted to buying an eyepatch to use for next years hunt (2012 season) to see if not squinting will help make spotting more comfortable. ARGHH LOL
I will keep my guns, keep hunting, fishing and the outdoors. You can keep the change!

By the time I got around to buying an eye patch I had pretty much given up on using my spotting scope.
Straight through binoculars are more comfortable to use and alot less of a hassle.
For me, there is no substitute for the pleasure of two-eyed viewing.  Looker

I did not mention the Canon IS because only one model is waterproof (10x42L WP).

Canon is pretty cautious about making claims on their products. Like said, there is only one model they list as WP. However, in the manual for my 15x model, it does states that they will be fine in rain or snow conditions, just dont drop them in the lake or river basically.

I forgot to mention, my only other gripe with the Canon's is they wont fit in my Badlands Bino pack.  Which BTW, is the cats meow of bino packs for hunting IMHO

Perhaps you should down-size to the Canon IS 12x36 bino, as it is one inch shorter. Wink

The IS feature of the Canon is nice.  However, as you note they are not as bright.  That is because they have less glass to work with collecting light out front (50 mm vs 56 mm or so)for the design to use in producing the image you see.  The newer 10x42 IS is the best optically of the lot IO think.  It will be interesting to see if the 15 & 18X get that glass upgrade at some point.

I just thought you might be interested in a bino pack that would fit your binos. I just got one of these after returning the Badlands pack I had bought. These packs come in 2 sizes, have fleece material inside and out to be quiet, and are made in the USA. You can actually talk to the owner of the company! He's a really nice guy that takes pride in his work, which is a rare thing nowadays. You can tell him Nolan sent you. His website is called Alaska Guide Creations.

If he doesn't want to give it back, he didn't borrow it; he stole it!  Perhaps he thinks that "lend" and "give" have the same meaning, or perhaps that as he is your boss he can do this sort of thing to you and get away with it.

John,

No need to "fly off the handle"!

When my boss said that I could not have it (NcStar 20x70) back, that was merely his way of expressing a desire to work out a deal between us.
(This cheap Chinese binocular, brand new, costs around $50.)

We did work out a swap for the binocular and he has been happy ever since.
