Survey of my usual hunting grounds showed good antler growth and nice mass.  Time will tell, first hunt in a few weeks.

Elk hunt first, looking forward to that!

Rut hasn't quite kicked in where I hunt yet. It usually peaks during the week of Thanksgiving everywhere I hunt. I haven't seen bucks pay any attention to does or spar with each other yet.

Be seeing alot of road kills the last 3 weeks.  There's a nice 6 pt down about 1.5 miles from the house.  So, lots of deer movement but its little early for the rut here too.   Soon though quite soon.

Brandon, you still hunting in the region of 'Bama where the rut doesn't hit its peak until January?

That was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen, and I would've never believed it had I not hunted there with you and seen it for myself! Those deer had their seasons all screwed up!

Nice old buck, by the way!

The whitetail rut just kicked off in N. Idaho (almost like somebody flipped a switch Friday night).  We've been watching multiple bucks from the house these past couple days, and have been scheming to put a large 5x5 that's been hanging around (he's only been seen at night) in our freezer.  Plans changed a bit, as I couldn't pass this guy up.  He stepped out onto the ridge next to our house at dusk this evening, and then loitered long enough for me to go get my wife and 9-yr old daughter so they could check him out in the spotting scope.  Once those two got excited, there was no turning back so I shot him with the 6.5 CM.  He's a pretty, heavy-beamed, symmetrical 4x4.  (One of these days, I'll actually shoot something in the AM so I can field dress in the daylight and take a decent picture -- what a novel idea...)

Here's a little better pic.  My wife chose to tag along this morning to pull the buck out, and I'm not sure I've ever appreciated having another set of hands along for a pack out this much.  Steep and slick.

As I said before M2 nice buck and you also have a good looking Doe and you have her trained well. Mine used to help also but now the 4 wheeler does the work.My better half insists on doing the bungie work on the toboggan so they don't fall off.

It wasn't...  We had to go up a ways and then cross-hill a ways before we could find a decent route down.  Would have been a lot easier if he had stayed planted when shot, but he rolled/slid into kind of a bad spot.
