ANY OPINIONS ON THE NEW 2004 LEUPOLD RIFLESCOPES?  HOW ABOUT THE INDEX MATCHED LENS SYSTEM?  IS IT AN ACTUAL IMPROVEMENT OVER THE MULTICOAT 4?

It has a higher light transmission percentage then MultiCoat IV, up to 98%.

Leupold reports in the catalog "SOME of the new models have measures AS HIGH as 98% transmission". Then I think to myself. What does SOME mean and even more important, what does AS HIGH mean????? Why can’t they just report average/median numbers? What is AS HIGH? Is it a 3 sigma spec (less than 1 out of 100), a absolute maximum ever measured during production or what? Why I ask? Cause if it’s a 3 sigma spec I have a less than 1% chance to get a scope like that when I buy it from anywhere they sell... If you report the median, then at least I know I have 50% chance f getting such a scope...Why don't they report light transmission on specific models???

It's like saying on a Ford car ad "Some cars of some models can go up 360miles/h" Then I go get a Ford and when "I step on" it, I feel like

Aic

Compare that to the other brands, who give one "exact" figure for all scopes in a lineup... can that be right? What looks like inexact wording to you is actually more honest than some of the other numbers we're getting.

They are just starting to ship right now.  Still too early to have any real world test or comparisons.  You can bet that it is better than what it replaced.
