At 60, my eyes aren't what they used to be. I have a Vortex Strikefire II on my AR15, but the red dot shows up as three dots when I'm not wearing my glasses (which I usually wear for reading only).  Can anyone recommend a Red dot/reticle sight that will be easier to see through?  FWIW, I was an 11B back in the 70's and trained on the AR15, M60 and M21, but only recently starting using the newer sights.

Thanks in advance.

If you have astigmatism, most holographic or red dot sights will not work well for you uncorrected (as you have found out).

You should be looking at a focusing sight like one of several prism sights out there.  They are available in a variety of quality levels and price ranges: Leupold Prismatic, DI Optical Prism sight, Burris AR-1X, Vortex Spitfire AR 1x.

I have similar problems with ANY optic I look through with my 63 year old eyes, but have a simple solution - PUT YOUR GLASSES ON

Ilya- Thanks for the recommendations. It seems like prism sights would do the trick

Travlr36-  I only wear glasses for reading. I can't use them for long distance vision.

I have astigmatism, but I am also severely near-sighted, so I must wear contacts or glasses. Good red dots and holos work for me, but a good illuminated scope did not. Please report back on how the prism sight works for you.

I bought an Aimpoint PRO for my AR-15, but was disappointed to learn my left (shooting) eye astigmatism was worse than I thought and turned the red dot into a fuzzy red comma. I was mulling over should I return it, sell it, trade it or what when I got the bright idea of calling Aimpoint tech support to see if they had any ideas. The person I talked to must have had astigmatism too because he said don't concentrate or focus on the dot, focus on the target with the dot on it. Look through the dot or past it, or however you want to word it. He finished with "trust me, it helps a lot."

I just came back from zeroing the Aimpoint at a 100 yard indoor range and it was a piece of cake. It takes a little getting used to, but it worked for me.

I think the axis of the prescription has an effect, too. I am having trouble with fuzzing horizontal crosshairs after trying a new prescription. I think I might need different lenses for irons, for scope and for general purpose. My optometrist is a shooter, too. I might haul in some optics next time.
