Work has kept me pretty  busy this year. So much so that organising a decent hunt fell on the wayside. I managed to hook up with a friend who had a friend who had a farm near the Botswana border. This is about a 3,5 hour drive from Pretoria.

I can report that the friends I made were great, the farm and facilties were very nice. Basic but comfortable and relaxing.

Unfortunately the game was few and far inbetween. I did see some impala, rather fleetingly. I also made a stalk on a kudu some 800 yds away standing in the farm road. I stalked 50yds inside the bush, but when I came out at around 250 yds he was gone.

The farm had a lot of warthog, of which I shot two. In total after two days hunt, six guns, we shot one impala and 7 warthog.

Enjoy the pics....

Congrats on the great hunt. As we all know, it's not just about taking game. Good friends, good times, relaxation and get-away time is invaluable. Excellent

Thanks for sharing, Wouter!  Looks and sounds like you had a good time regardless.

One question I've always pondered about hunting in Africa...

I see you guys wearing camo in the pics.  However, in most African hunting pics I see, the hunters are usually not wearing camo, but instead gray, brown, or khaki.  Camo doesn't appear to be as common or popular there as it is here.  Is this the case, and if so, what's the reason for that?

Is that warthog kind of light-colored?  Maybe I've watched too many Disney movies.

Thanks for sharin, 8s.

Probably different answers to this question.

I would say in the safari days camo was not available and the likes of Hemingway set the stage for khaki clad hunters. This became the African image and everyone stuck to this.

The other story is that camo was not available until late 90's in this country. Probably due to our terrorist warfare...the terrs wore camo, we wore brown fatigues. So anything in a camo suit got shot to bits. Nowadays the terrs are referred to as freedom fighters, struggle heroes and the other PC names. And camo clothing is available in all stores.

So in short the African continent lagged a bit behind in the camo fashion dept, but we are catching up fast !!!!

I've always heard how close southern Africa looked to southern Texas, and now I see why. That looks much like my place. Thanks for the pictures.
