Just Received a 1975 (according to the ser#) Winchester model 94 from my BIL. He had 2, knew I had a 30-30 on my wish list and sent me one of his. Anyway the gun looks great, bluing and wood are immaculate, but... the trigger and lever have a little play in them. (more than I would imagine should be) Is this something I should let a gunsmith handle or is there a quick fix I can do?
Thanks in advance

"A little play in them" is rather normal. However, when in doubt have a competent smith check it out.

The loose action or play as you call it and rattling is the reason I have always prefered the Marlin 336 over the Winchester. It is doubtful that it has a problem because all the Winchester 94 lever actions rattle. When Hornady came out with the LEVERevolutiom ammunition it really raised the bar on the old favorite 30-30. Enjoy your prize,

It really depends on where the play is coming from? Is it coming from where the bolt and lever connect? is it coming from where the lever is bolted thru the frame? Is the play in the lever when bolt is in battery/locked? I have had a few in the shop with "play". one was fine and functioned and shot perfect just a tad worn but nothing needed replaced. The other two needed newer levers. The part that sticks in the bolt was wore more then I liked to see, but to get to that stage you have to shot them A LOT or just not oil that part and let the friction do the rest then shot A LOT. The lever just sticks in the bolt, so its a wear point. I would be happy to look it over for you, just PM me if interested.

Hey 3_tens,
A co-worker of mine brought in his Marlin 336 1970 commemorative model (very nice) and I see what you mean. The action was rock solid. The side eject was pretty cool also. Great for mounting optics. Another one to put on the wish list - thanks
