For northern midwest (woodland) whitetail hunting primarily, looking for good quality, low-light competent scopes. Two for hunting rifles, one for a target/sometime-hunter rifle. Purchased a Zeiss Conquest 1.5-5x38 that, on the surface, am really impressed with - but admittedly only played with while home briefly on leave. To that end, am looking at what other good options (i.e. two more) exist around that performance & quality point (have looked at the opticstalk scale). This would be for purchase when finally get home. Needs:
Very Good dawn/dusk performance (if my naked eye can see it, the scope "should")
Very Good FOV (will take 60'+ over 40' @100yd any day)
Low power variable (keen on 1.5-2x low ends and not much desire for over 6-8x mag)
Wants:
Not spend 100% more for 5% more performance
Not seeking illuminated reticle but would consider
Ballpark $300-600, give or take. Could twist my arm for $1k+ glass only on my #1 rifle.
Sounds like Bushnell has a winner with the 4200 - any feedback on the elite 4200 1.25-4x 24mm? Granted low mag scopes don't need huge objectives, but i just wonder, cuz 1" is pretty modest. Or how about Burris Sig. Select or Euro Diamond 1.5-6x40? I tried to order a Kahles C 1.5-6 (?) but was too late, discontinued. In retrospect, i don't feel a "need" to spend that much anyway. Share any thoughts on these or others? Thanks!

FYI: I have a Kahles CL and a Conquest and am still very impressed with the Burris I have...
last night I did some more testing, put a playing card in a tree at 225 yards, could barely even see the tree with the naked eye but could have shot the playing card no prob with the burris http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=11291 |

Thanks for the suggestions, some interesting new ideas. Decided to roll the dice, ordered a used Kahles while it's available - the same one i tried to order new a while back but was discontinued. Will kick around those other ideas between now and getting home. Thanks again!

You will be very happy with your choice. I have three C models and my brother has the 1.5-6x42. It is excellent for your use.
