Going on a Savage 12fcv in .223 for paper to 300 yards 95% of time and hopefully some varmit shooting the rest. Some of my competitions are shooting at paper varmits with very very small targets, like a 1 inch dogs head sorrounded by the foxes at 100 yards. I need to be able to make out tiny details on the dull targets as they are not bright white with a nice red bulls eye.  What would you pick between these 2, or suggest another? I have a Weaver T36 on another gun and have been satisfied but mirage gets wavey. Im wondering with less magnification and hopefully better glass if these might be the route to go. I could always adjust the viper($249.95) to the conditions but hear the great reviews of the SS($299.95). I like this price range.

Both would work good.  I would put the glass on teh viper slightly better than the SS but certainly not by much.  I have had both.  I liked the SS better just because I don't use anything over 15-16X on the Viper because of feedback in the reticle.
