Hello all.  I'm looking to buy some binocs.
 1.  Is there a big difference between 15x70 and 20x80??
 2.  I have a cheapo pair of 16x32, about $25.  Will there be a big difference between these and a $100 pair of the 15x70?
(I do mostly day viewing and I'm 55 years of age)
3.  Brand?  I see a LOT of used Barska for sell.  Stay away?  How about Humvee and Celestron?

Thanks for the suggestions.

BTW, I"m only looking to pay around $100.   So what's the best available for this price?

Ok, now I"m looking at the Nikon Action, 15x50, for around $100.  I also see some high end 15x50, over my head, for $1000-1300.  Is one of these high end ones that much better than a $100 one?   If so, how so?  Shocked

Thanks for any replies.

Yes, I read most of that.  Thanks.  Indirectly, it all said "Yes, maybe."

I don't want to blow $100 and find out that there's little difference between the cheapo 16x32 I already have and this 16x50.

Guess I need to go try some out, somewhere.   Yippee
Maybe Sportsman's Warehouse will have some.

Does being 'made in China' necessarily mean they're cheap and no good?  Will that Celestron 20x80 fall apart or explode after 3 months?

  Couldn't find an edit...

I notice then that the Nikon 16x50 is about 3 exit pupil versus the 20x80 is 4 exit pupil.  Will that make a difference to these old eyes?

In daylight my eye pupils (age 62+) close down to 2mm, so, for normal daylight it will not make a difference. The difference would be at dawn or dusk, mainly.

Major brand names such as Nikon, Pentax, and others are able to oversee Quality Control standards during the manufacturing process and still end up with a binocular that performs well.

The internet is full of horror stories about Barska, Celestron, Zhumell and other giant astronomy binoculars.

On the other side of the coin, there will always be those folks who swear by their cheap Chinese binoculars no matter what.  It took me three tries, but, I finally received an acceptable Barska 30x80 X-Trail, only after it was inspected & shipped directly to me from Barska in California. Wink

You have the right idea by going to your local Sporting Goods store and trying out the Nikon Action Extreme 16x50 in person.

Good Luck!

I put a space between your name, so it did not send to you. Clown
