I am thinking of adding another scope and the 1.5 6 x42 has caught my eye,(probably a Zeiss Diavari,as the sample list has some good deals). This gun scope combo will be set up for short range deer hunting,(10-150 yds.,with most shots at 10-60 yds.) in the S.Alabama woods.I noticed the exit pupil for this scope is from 7-15 whereas the exit pupil for a 3-12x56 ranges from 4.7-14.7.So with the smaller scope there seems to be a lot of exit pupil, especially on the lower powers for low light hunting. How much will I suffer,if any from the smaller scope in terms of brightness compared to the larger scope? Thanks.

As long as the exit pupil is around 5+ and you have good glass / coatings you won't suffer. That Zeiss Diavari is a wonderful instrument.

I had a 1.5-6x42 Kahles mounted on a 30 06 that I thought was the ideal scope for the woods of MI. 1.5x=large fov and the 7mm of eye objective at 6x is very usable for low light conditions. One of those scopes I should have never parted with
