I have a new to me Ruger 10/22. Put in the standard Volquartsen hammer and extractor. Took it out for a test drive today and had two light primer strikes out of 50 rounds or so.
Ammo could be an issue here. It was just stuff I more or less "swept up" off the bottom of my range bag. Both rounds went crack after reloading. Anyway... Any 10/22 buffs here that know about these things? |

Were the primer strikes lighter than other primer strikes? I have had this happen to me before and I always thought it was a cheap ammo issue. Since the primer strike was no different than the other primer strikes. And usually if I reload them they go bang.

Good thought, it left a normal looking dent. But, I didn't think to look at it very closely or compare to another fired case. Something to remember next time. Probably splurge and crack open a box of good ammo from my stash too.
Another thing I discovered. The hole for the trigger plunger is drilled at about a 45 degree angle. Doesn't make for the smoothest trigger. Everyone has seen a 10/22: |

Find out what ammo your Ruger likes, mine loves copper Fed bulk.
Most of the time the fault is with the ammo no matter what brand/make it is, one of the joys of rim fire. As for your trigger you can buy a complete drop in replacement, very easy to fit upgrade.

Hmm old ammo from bottom of range bag-- yep I have some old ammo scattered around also some of its 35 or 40 yrs old drug through mud puddles etc. Keep working with it -- shoot it often and you will know what it likes. If the problem occurs with relatively new good ammo you may suspect the spring that forces the hammer to strike or a lack of lubrication and too much dirt slowing things down.
