I recently acquired a vintage HK 770 with the HK 05 Claw QD mount. For those of you unfamiliar with this mount, it looks like this:

As you can see, the QD lever is located on the left-hand side and when locked it sits perfectly vertical. With a 1" scope, it touches the "center box" of the scope (I don't know the actual name, but the thing the turrets come out from). Obviously this precludes having a turret on the left side.

I would still like to have at least a 10x max power FFP scope on the rifle, but the issue I'm running into is that:
A. All new FFP scopes (that I can find) are 30mm or greater.
B. All new FFP scopes (that I can find) have a left side turret.

With respect to issue A, I currently only have 1" rings, but can acquire some NOS 30mm HK rings for the low low price of $500 (yes I know that's crazy, but this is a 50 year old rifle and all the parts are long discontinued with no aftermarket options), however I'm worried that even IF I can find a 30mm scope without a lefthand turret, it still might be too wide to work with the QD lever...

The above is moot however, as with respect to issue B, I can't find a single FFP scope with >10x max power that doesn't have a left side turret. Hopefully someone here can chime in with some suggestions? Cost no object.

TIA!

That would be a question for Ilya Koshkin.

Google opticsthoughts.com.

Okay, all I was familiar with was the NATO mounts for the HK series of rifles and SMG's. I did google the HK 770, and took a look at the scopes and mounts on the rifle. It looked like all the rifles with the QD mount had fixed power scopes, and those with variable scopes had fixed mounts. Also the erectors on the fixed power scopes were offset from the QD lever.
If you want a 10X scope, then you're probably need a different mount.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Although I'm afraid you're correct, I hope we're both wrong.

I know FFP is a relatively "new" scope technology, but maybe I can find something a few years old, before everything started having side turrets?

https://www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-hd-3-9x42-tactical-30mm-riflescope.html?___SID=U  the SS 3-9 FFP does not have side focus.  Neither do any of the SS fixed power scopes other than the 10 HD
The down side is the 3-9 is not in stock and both of those options are 30mm.
(I had an HK 91 with similar mount in the about 1980 they seem to lock up solid for being QD.)
While you could take a Dremel tool or grinder and cut off half of the throw lever that might not be ideal.
Clearly it would be best to select a 1 inch tube scope.  While I hate to tell you that you cant get everything you want, I think that is where you are at with this rifle and you could certainly put a scope that you really like on a nice Tikka and enjoy that without the frustration you are encountering here. So the question remains what of the extremely limited supply of scopes on the market do you select for this 1 inch tube with throw lever mount.  The reason I suggest this scope is that the CDS dial will work like a Kenton Industries knob and allow  you to dial in correction for elevation. Granted you wont be able to use mils to range find but a good rangefinder is more often used. Since the reticle is a duplex 2FP its always going to look the same and has the advantage of not having clutter that a Christmas tree reticle provides.  I think its a viable option likely better than some other 1 inch tube scopes that might work for this mount.   https://www.swfa.com/leupold-4-5-14x50-vx-3hd-riflescope.html?___SID=U
